Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and influential finance leader to join Barnardo's as our Group Financial Controller during a period of significant organisational development and transformation.

Following changes to the Finance leadership structure, this newly established 12-month fixed-term role will provide additional senior leadership capacity and play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of Barnardo's strategic priorities.

As a key member of the Finance Leadership Team, the Group Financial Controller will provide senior operational and financial leadership across the finance function, ensuring the highest standards of governance, control and performance while helping to drive transformational change.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will lead a broad portfolio encompassing financial control, finance operations, finance systems, finance transformation and legacy operations. You will be responsible for ensuring robust financial stewardship, effective governance, operational excellence and high-quality service delivery across the organisation.

The role offers a unique opportunity to influence and shape the future of the finance function. You will lead on key transformation programmes, drive improvements across systems, processes and ways of working, and develop and coach senior leaders to build capability across the team. At the same time, you will ensure strong financial governance and operational performance while supporting the delivery of Barnardo's wider strategic objectives.

Acting as the CFO's senior operational deputy, you will play a critical role in enabling the CFO to focus on strategic organisational priorities, while providing visible leadership across finance and leading major projects that support finance and systems transformation.

The role is hybrid with occasional days in the London office.
