Department The Grounds Section maintains grounds across 2 campuses, which includes 230 acres at our Colchester campus. This Colchester campus contains 30 acres of sport pitches, nearly 3,000 notable trees and historic parkland, parts of which are Grade II Listed.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Grounds Person to join the Grounds team at the University of Essex.
Duties of the Role - Assist in the maintenance of over 230 acres of Historic parkland to a very high standard.
- Maintenance and upkeep of the Universities grounds, to include planting and maintaining flower beds, leaf collecting and other tasks when required.
- Monitor habitats and biodiversity.
- Use, maintain and manage grass cutting and grass management machinery so all are used, maintained, and cleaned to a very high standard to include, general mowers, tractors, aerators and scarifiers.
- Be able to attend all the necessary training programmes to ensure you can complete your role correctly, these courses may not all be at the University.
- Be able to read, understand and if necessary, communicate literature relating to your role.
- Undertake snow clearance and gritting when required.
- Ensuring a professional image is always presented.
Skills and qualifications required The post holder should be physically able to undertake all the duties of the post.
Must be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions.
Must be prepared to be part of the snow and ice team, working in cold weather and at various times of day.
Be able to read and understand any directions printed on any materials used.
Good communication skills including the ability to effectively respond to instructions
Good attention to detail in work.
Good time keeping.
The ability to work well on your own initiative, or as part of a team
Ability to prioritise work on a day-to-day basis.
