Job Title: Forensic Administrator
Salary: The starting salary is £36,228, which includes allowances totalling £3,009. The salary is broken down as £33,219 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £35,541. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

This is an exciting time to be working as a Forensic Administrator for the Metropolitan Police Service. You will be part of an experienced team responsible for the administrative support of forensic submissions from across the MPS. Our teams are responsible for approximately 230,000 forensic submissions per year, and deal with enquiries in respect of the progress and results of these examinations. This means our teams work in a fast paced and dynamic environment, where they are required to process a forensic submission from receipt to conclusion, ensuring that submissions are accurately processed, allocated and recorded. You will be the first point of contact for internal and external customers seeking advice on a forensic investigation and provide an effective, efficient administrative support function for the Directorate of Forensic Services.
Key Responsibilities:- Dealing with exhibits delivered via despatch or in person, complete accuracy checking of relevant information and the continuity and integrity of the exhibits requiring forensic analysis, rejecting exhibits which do not conform to prescribed standards.
- To maintain accurate records of exhibits received.
- Appropriately store exhibits in line with the rules of continuity and integrity for allocation to a technical specialist.
- To accurately input essential data, interrogate, monitor and review both local and MPS Case Management Information Systems and any other databases relevant to role.
- Provide an initial point of contact for all enquiries directed to the team. Provide a help-desk / liaison service for a variety of telephone, electronic and personal callers.
- Deal with telephone queries. These may involve requests for the retrieval of case files for court purposes, submission enquiries and general casework information. Direct calls to appropriate personnel when required.
- Create work packages and assign submissions according to forensic requirement and in line with procedures and contractual obligations. Store exhibits in line with rules of continuity and integrity.
- Prioritise workload according to the level of urgency of each case and regularly review and monitor cases to manage priorities.
- Provide Management Information and Key Performance Indicator reports to line managers as required
- Complete administrative functions in association with tasks undertaken providing administrative support to the technical team.
- Provide timely and accurate minutes of Forensic Services team meetings
- Analyse, interpret and rectify problems with images and equipment in line with service protocol
- Work in partnership with Department of Forensic Services and line managers to develop and deliver change
- Understand and accept the core principles set out in the H&S Policy in relation to your role, duties and responsibilities and implement those principles and requirements in day-to-day activities.
- Demonstrate effective visible safety leadership, understand H&S policy and lead compliance within area of responsibility. Implement the principles and requirements of H&S policy in your day to day activities and within the teams you work/manage. Encourage open dialogue and feedback on safety issues
Knowledge- Awareness of the rules regarding evidence gathering, exhibit handling, continuity, integrity and the Criminal Justice System and be prepared to offer evidence and attend court if required.
- Desirable to have an understanding of the technical and procedural processes within Forensic Services.

Expectations and working conditions/Additional Information:- Must provide a DNA sample and fingerprints for inclusion on the Staff Elimination databases.
- Must be able to work flexibly to meet operational demand
- Expected to work within the Forensic Service Quality Management System and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the system by participating in quality assurance activities, engaging in internal and external audits, competence and proficiency tests, reporting non-conformances and proposing changes to improve the system.
