The group

Our Family Group act for a diverse range of clients from A-list celebrities, start-up entrepreneurs, sole traders to individuals within the world of finance. The work encompasses a broad range of family work including nuptial agreements, financial claims on divorce, financial provision for children and private law children work (domestic and international).

The role

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Senior or Managing Associate to join our Family Group at Harbottle & Lewis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a family lawyer who is looking to take the next step in their career and play a key role within a highly regarded specialist team. You will have significant responsibility for managing your own caseload, acting for clients with a high degree of autonomy and delivering a consistently high standard of legal advice and client service.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage a varied and complex caseload of family law matters with a high degree of autonomy.

- Take responsibility for matters from initial instruction through to resolution, ensuring work is delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

- Provide clear, pragmatic and commercially aware legal advice to clients.

- Develop and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients and other professional advisers.

- Conduct negotiations and, where appropriate, represent clients in court and other dispute resolution forums.

- Demonstrate strong judgement when dealing with complex and sensitive family matters.

- Manage competing priorities, deadlines and client expectations effectively.

- Contribute to the development and profile of the Family team and wider firm.

- Support and share knowledge with more junior members of the team where appropriate.

- Identify opportunities to develop existing client relationships and contribute to business development initiatives.

- Keep up to date with developments in family law and ensure advice reflects current legislation and practice.

The successful candidate will be confident managing matters from start to finish with minimal supervision and will be comfortable taking ownership of their work and client relationships. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the wider development of the team and firm, alongside clear scope for career progression and further professional development.

- Strong experience in family law, with a proven ability to manage your own caseload independently.

- Excellent technical knowledge.

- Experience dealing directly with clients and managing complex and sensitive matters.

- Strong negotiation, communication and advocacy skills.

- The ability to work autonomously while also contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

- Excellent organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

- A commercial and client-focused approach.

- A proactive attitude towards business development and building professional relationships.

- The confidence to take responsibility and make decisions without requiring close supervision.
