Law and Standards provides key services to the community including electoral registration, Registrars and the Gwent Coroner Service. Teams of professionals and support staff provide key services to the Council's Cabinet, Members, Senior Leadership team and our service areas.
About the jobWe are currently looking to add to our bank of casual relief Chauffeurs who will ensure that the Mayor/Mayoress and senior Members are appropriately supported to attend civic functions and engagements.
The successful appointees will be required to drive the Mayor/Mayoress to events in Newport and on occasion further afield. The role includes caring and maintaining the mayoral chains and regalia and following documented procedures to maintain security standards.
Successful candidates will be expected to carry out daily checks on the vehicle, maintain records of mileage and fuel, and help to ensure that it is kept clean and polished at all times.
Successful candidates will also be required to provide assistance at civic receptions and other functions as required.
This post will not be full time, you will be paid pro-rate for the hours worked. You may from time to time be asked to cover events at short notice.
About the personYou'll hold a full clean driving licence and have basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance. This post requires you to demonstrate effective communication skills as you will be in contact with other organisations and the public as part of the role.
You must exhibit tactfulness, empathy and diplomacy when dealing with people. You will be confident, polite and able to work unsupervised. You'll also have excellent time keeping skills.
The selection process will include driving licence and reference checks, and a driving assessment.
