This is an exciting opportunity to join our Events Team at a time of significant investment and opportunity. Kirklees Council is committed to delivering a dynamic, inclusive, and ambitious programme of events, cultural activity, tourism initiatives, and place-based development that supports town centre vitality, community wellbeing, economic growth, and the promotion of Kirklees as a destination to live, work, visit and invest.

The Events Team plays a key role in delivering and supporting a diverse range of activity across the district, from flagship events, festivals, civic celebrations and markets to festive programmes and community-led events. The team also contributes to the development and activation of major public spaces, including the programming and operation of the new Our Cultural Heart development in Huddersfield.

Alongside event delivery, the team works closely with partners to support the Safety Advisory Group (SAG), encourages event organisers and promoters to bring activity into the district, supports filming activity, and contributes to initiatives that strengthen Kirklees' visitor economy and cultural offer.

As a Project Officer - Events Officer, you will play a key role in supporting these ambitions, helping to deliver high-quality events and projects that make a positive impact on communities and visitors across Kirklees.

About the Role

You will be responsible for supporting and delivering a varied programme of events, festivals, and place-based activity across Kirklees. Responsibilities will include:
  • Managing the delivery of events, festivals, markets, and seasonal programmes across Kirklees.
  • Developing event management plans, schedules, risk assessments, and operational procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, licensing requirements, GDPR and other regulatory standards.
  • Supporting the administration and operation of the Safety Advisory Group (SAG), working with partners to promote safe and successful events across the district.
  • Managing event budgets, monitoring expenditure, and producing evaluation reports.
  • Supporting community groups, volunteers, and local organisers to deliver safe and successful events.
  • Working with event organisers, promoters, and venue operators to encourage and facilitate new events and activities within Kirklees.
  • Supporting the development, activation and programming of key public spaces and venues, including Our Cultural Heart.
  • Supporting filming enquiries and productions within the district, acting as a liaison between productions, council services, and external partners.
  • Coordinating promotional information to support destination marketing, audience development, and visitor economy initiatives.
  • Developing relationships with cultural organisations, businesses, promoters, and community groups to increase the range and quality of events taking place in Kirklees.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual with experience of event management and a passion for creating memorable experiences for residents and visitors. You will be a confident communicator, able to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

You will be able to demonstrate:
  • Experience of successfully planning and delivering events.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with partners across the public, private, voluntary, or cultural sectors.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to find practical solutions to challenges.
  • A commitment to supporting the growth, resilience, and prosperity of Kirklees and its communities.

What You Need

To be successful in this role, you will meet the essential criteria outlined in the employee specification, including experience of events management, project management knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of the cultural sector and communities within Kirklees would be particularly beneficial.

Additional Information

This role involves regular evening and weekend working, as well as time spent working outdoors at events throughout the year. Travel across Kirklees is an essential part of the role, therefore a full driving licence and access to a vehicle (or the ability to travel independently across the district) is required. Exceptions may be considered for disabled applicants.
