As part of the University's continued investment in its estate, facilities and campus environment, we are pleased to offer two new opportunities within the Campus Operations Team. These roles will play an important part in maintaining and enhancing our buildings, grounds and wider campus infrastructure, helping to ensure we continue to provide a safe, attractive and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

The Campus Operations Team is seeking two enthusiastic and committed colleagues to join our Estates Maintenance team. Working as part of a dedicated team and reporting to the Estates Maintenance Officer, both posts offer variety, responsibility and the opportunity to contribute directly to the ongoing development and upkeep of the University's estate.

PERM-1131-2026 Estates Maintenance Technician (Buildings)

Grade 4 | Full-Time | Permanent

The Buildings Technician will support the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across the University estate. The role involves a wide range of practical maintenance activities including:

  • General building repairs and re-decoration.
  • Minor plumbing and mechanical maintenance.
  • Installation of fixtures, fittings, shelving and noticeboards.
  • Compliance testing, including emergency lighting, fire alarms, fire doors and water flushing.
  • Identifying and reporting maintenance issues requiring specialist contractor support.

We are looking for someone with practical building maintenance experience, excellent problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to customer service and health and safety.

Essential requirements include:

  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, or substantial relevant experience.
  • Experience within a building services or maintenance environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PERM-1130-2026 Estates Maintenance Technician (Grounds)

Grade 4 | Full-Time | Permanent

The Grounds Technician will be responsible for maintaining the University's landscaped areas, sports facilities and external environments across multiple sites. Duties include:

  • Grounds and garden maintenance, including lawns, flower beds, hedges and trees.
  • Litter collection and ensuring outdoor spaces remain clean and safe.
  • Grounds maintenance machinery operation and upkeep.
  • Sports pitch marking.
  • Winter gritting and adverse weather response.
  • Supporting outdoor preparations for events such as Open Days and Graduation ceremonies.
  • Maintaining compliance documentation relating to grounds maintenance activities and chemical usage.

We are looking for a motivated individual with grounds maintenance experience who takes pride in maintaining high-quality outdoor environments.

Essential requirements include:

  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Horticulture, Sports Turf, Amenity Maintenance or a related discipline, or relevant experience.
  • Grounds maintenance experience and operation of grass-cutting machinery.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to undertake physically demanding work and work effectively as part of a team.
