Job description
Join one of the UK's leading Employment teams This is an exciting time to join Burges Salmon's Employment team.
Following significant client wins and continued growth in demand, we are expanding across our Bristol and Edinburgh offices and are looking for talented employment lawyers at Solicitor, Associate and Senior Associate level.
As part of our recent growth, we have seen a substantial increase in contentious employment work, including respondent-side Employment Tribunal litigation for leading employers across a range of sectors. Candidates with experience of managing Employment Tribunal claims will be particularly well placed to make an immediate impact, although such experience is not essential.
You'll work with experienced and highly regarded employment lawyers, advising major UK organisations on complex employment issues. From Employment Tribunal litigation and workplace investigations to strategic workforce change projects and cutting-edge advisory work, you'll be involved in some of the most important employment challenges facing our clients.
We want people who are ambitious, keen to develop and enjoy working closely with clients and colleagues. In return, you'll find high-quality work, real responsibility and plenty of opportunities to develop your career.
The team Our award-winning Employment team is recognised nationally for the quality of its work, the strength of its client relationships and its collaborative culture. We advise FTSE 100 and 250 businesses, major public sector employers, growing businesses, non-profit organisations and senior executives. We are trusted with their most sensitive and strategically important workforce challenges.
Our work includes:
- Employment Tribunal and civil litigation, including complex and sensitive respondent-side claims
- Workplace investigations
- Strategic workforce change and reorganisations
- Complex employment and workforce advisory matters
- Global mobility, data subject access requests, client training and other value-added services
The team is fully integrated across Bristol, Edinburgh and London, providing access to a national client base and colleagues across the UK.
What you'll need We are recruiting across a range of qualification levels and are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Relevant employment law experience
- Employment Tribunal litigation experience, ideally acting for respondents, although claimant experience will be considered
- Business immigration experience would be advantageous but not essential
- The ability to manage matters and competing priorities effectively
- A collaborative approach and confidence working directly with clients
- Sound judgement, commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Self-motivation, curiosity and commitment to continued development
- Registration as a Solicitor with the SRA or Law Society of Scotland
For more senior appointments, you'll have the opportunity to take a leading role on complex and high-profile matters, build trusted relationships with clients, supervise and develop junior lawyers, and contribute to the continued growth of a highly successful national team. We are particularly interested in candidates who enjoy taking ownership, supporting others' development and helping shape the future direction of the practice. Experience of conducting or leading workplace investigations would also be desirable.
You do not need experience across every area. We will focus on the breadth and complexity of your work, the responsibilities you have undertaken and your potential to contribute, rather than a fixed PQE range.
The firm Our professional, progressive environment combines high-quality work with quality of life. You'll contribute from the outset, supported by approachable senior lawyers and Partners, with meaningful opportunities to develop your practice and career.
We hold Investors in People Platinum accreditation , were voted RollOnFriday's "Best Law Firm to Work at 2026" for a fifth consecutive year, and were named "Law Firm of the Year" at the Legal Business Awards 2025 .
You'll have a fair and transparent path to progression. We are open to flexible working and both full-time and part-time patterns.
It is important to us that our organisation represents the diverse communities in which we operate, and we encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and identities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will provide a fully accessible recruitment process.
