Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will practice independently within the Consultant led ED and integrated Urgent Treatment Centre (iUTC), being a role model of the four pillars of Advanced Practice. This clinically focussed role will encompass the post holder providing exemplary patient-centred and sound evidenced based care to patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. The post holder will form part of a multi-disciplinary team aspiring to achieve local and national standards across different areas of the department, whilst providing formal and informal education, teaching, and mentorship, second opinion advice and support to junior clinicians during a span of duty. The post holder will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and clinical attributes, enabling him/her to provide expert clinical and professional support to other clinicians and staff within their area of work of the UEC division.

Esential and Desirable criteria

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse or HCPC Registered Paramedic or Physiotherapist
  • Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice (or in certain circumstances has completed Health Education England (HEE) ACP ePortfolio)
  • Current working in an Advanced Practice role
  • Independent Prescriber (V300)
  • Advanced Life Support provider (ALS) (if not required in current role please state
  • Advanced Paediatric Life Support provider (APLS) (if not required in current role please state)
  • Has ≥5 year's whole time equivalent (WTE) post registration experience working within Emergency, Urgent, Acute or Critical Care
  • Competent in 12 lead ECG interpretation


Desirable criteria
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support provider (ATLS) or European Trauma Course (ETC)
  • Completed or working toward accreditation/credentialing with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM)
  • Generic Instructor Course (GIC) for the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) or Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG)
  • Leadership qualification
  • Teaching / Assessment and mentoring qualification
  • Have Ultrasound Level 1 qualification
