Job description

Hours of work: Full-time.

Tenure: Fixed term from 1 November 2026 until 30 October 2029.

This project is part of the MSCA Doctoral Networks program e-ChemIn, connecting 10 research institutes and 3 companies across Europe in a joint effort to identify design electrochemical interfaces for electrocatalysis and batteries. You will employ X-raycharacterisationcombined with in-situ electrochemical and Raman spectroscopy (RS) measurements on metal, metal-oxide electrocatalytic model systems (thin films, single crystals of Fe, Ni, Cu, oxides) at different pH and ion composition. You will investigate the relationship between chemical activity and structure through the application of operando characterization of solid-liquid interfaces in electrocatalysis. Multi-modalcharacterisationcombining these techniques (x-ray, electrochemical and optical characterisation) will link intermediates and by-products to the observed activity, stability, and chemical changes. Changes during degradation of metal and metal- oxide electrocatalysts will bemonitoredover extended periods, correlating them with the structural and chemical changes.

Secondments (short-term academic and/or industrial research stays) are an integral part of the doctoral training program: According to current project plans 2 secondments are foreseen: 1) 4 months atMONOLITHOS Catalysts and Recycling Ltd.(Dr. Iakovos Yakoumis)and 2) 4 months at the University of Leiden (Dr. Rik Mom)

This project is a good match if you like:

- understanding electrochemistry at the atomic level.

- Working with advanced measurement techniques.

- Working as a team, both within the group and in collaborations with other institutes.
