Be skilled in the assessment of complex/specialist care/support needs and in the development, implementation and evaluation of care/support packages.

Have supervisory, training and leadership responsibilities where appropriate and will have some responsibility for team performance and service developments/improvements.

Demonstrate initiative and be creative in finding solutions to problems.

Work with the team leader undertaking delegated tasks in team management.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Nursing diploma/ 1st degree or degree in related subject/Demonstrable experience
  • Evidence of Continuing professional development and education
  • Post graduate studies in Diabetes care and management
  • Willingness to undertake Non-medical prescribing
  • Insulin PUMP K


Desirable criteria
  • Experience caring for women / people with diabetes or gestational diabetes
  • Leadership/management qualification
  • Accredited Diabetes module


Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in mentoring students and in being a sign off mentor
  • Experience and participation in research and audit and dissemination of findings
  • Participate in risk management and investigations
  • Expertise and teaching in all areas of nursing care
  • Influence policy setting
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience in Pump set and management


Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience in working with clients with diabetes and gestational diabetes
  • Attendance at relevant Diabetes groups or networks
  • Demonstrable leadership/managerial knowledge and ability


Skills and knowledge

  • Evidence of specialist diabetes clinical knowledge relevant to the post.
  • Manage and resolve conflict.
  • Participation in Selection and recruitment of staff
  • Ability to support service users, families and carers in dealing with diabetes in pregnancy
  • Act as a positive role model for all staff and students
  • Support and encourage junior staff in professional growth and confidence
  • Awareness of relevant NSF's and NICE guidance relating to Diabetes and gestational diabetes
