Job Title/Grade: Deputy Director of Organisational Development (Culture & Inclusion) Grade 11

Salary: £63,426 - £71,367 p.a. in addition it attracts a London weighting of £4,510 p.a.

Reporting to: Group Executive Director, People and Organisational Development

Responsible for: Organisation Development team, Equality Diversity & Inclusion team, Health and Safety Team

This role is a LSBU Group wide role. 

 

PURPOSE

The Deputy Director for Organisational Development will lead on positive change to LSBU and the Group through the design and delivery of organisational development and engagement strategies and plans in support of LSBU Group’s strategy. The post-holder will take the lead in managing change initiatives and projects to support the LSBU Group journey.  The role will also lead LSBU’s ambition which places equality, diversity & inclusion at the heart of our culture and lead on the well-being agenda. The role will deputise for the Group Executive Director, People and Organisational Development.

ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to LSBU’s overall strategy and policy making by advising the Executive Team and Senior Teams on organisation change, capability and development.
  • Define and lead the implementation of organisational development, engagement and people change strategies, plans and policies which support the support the delivery of operational excellence.
  • Play a significant role in the transformation of the LSBU Group.  Provide strategic direction on organisation, people and engagement for programmes and other change initiatives and a structured approach to people change management to support transformation programmes and other change initiatives.
  • Lead and develop the approach to career pathways, job families, standardizing roles and creating professional standards.
  • Build leadership capacity to proactively identify and respond to ongoing challenges, change and transformation. Develop and lead senior leadership development across the Group.
  • Lead on the Reward Strategy implementation, working in partnership with the HR Business Partner team. Lead on the creation of an organisation system which leverages the talent and potential of all its people, giving them the vision, skills, professionalism and capacity for change which are critical to the achievement of strategic priorities. Develop and lead the approach to talent management and succession planning across the group.
  • Under the leadership of the Group Executive Director, lead the development of organisation design including organisation size and shape, layers and spans of control. Lead on organisational performance through appraisal and measurable performance outcomes.
  • Enable the development of a Group wide culture which lives our values and embraces learning and change, is open, trusting and transparent. Provide consultation and coaching to leaders and teams across LSBU and the Group.
  • Deliver an approach where engagement is embedded in ‘the way we do things’ working alongside leaders and teams across the Group. 
  • Lead the creation of an approach and plan which places equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of everything LSBU does and accelerates our journey to achieving this.
  • Develop the reputation of LSBU externally by leading bids for health and safety awards. Support the Head of Health and Safety to liaise with external bodies such as Public Health England, Local Authorities, and specialist groups on health and safety issues.
  • Overall responsibility for the Staff well-being agenda to support the wellbeing of all staff, providing initiatives, interventions, advice.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the health and safety, OD and Diversity & Inclusion teams with an integrated approach to developing our organisation and culture.
  • Ensure that effective mechanisms are in place to evaluate the impact of OD, learning, development and training interventions.
  • Lead and direct governance and compliance arrangements, in order to ensure the university meets appropriate legal and statutory requirements with regards to staff.
  • To be the lead on UKVI regulatory issues, liaising with specialist lawyers where appropriate with the support of the Head of Health and Safety.
  • To lead on P&O projects agreed with the Director of People and Organisation and deputise for the Executive Director of People and Organisation when required. 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

Degree and/or Graduate or Chartered or Fellow Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) or equivalent.
 

  • Significant experience of organisation development and change management with the ability to think strategically and develop high impact strategies and plans.
  • Significant experience of managing health and safety advice across an Organisation.
  • Significant experience of leading Reward and workforce strategies which increase performance and productivity.
  • Significant experience of leading on Diversity and Inclusion within an Organisation and enacting changes.
  • The ability to act as a catalyst and game changer, and contribute to the changing organisational culture.
  • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities, with the ability to bring individuals and teams together across boundaries.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience of leading a team with a strong collaborative approach to support ongoing change and innovation.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret data to make sound strategic decisions, define measurable targets and monitor progress.
  • Proven experience of change management, project leadership and managing organisational restructures.
  • Able to demonstrate an expertise, and commitment to, equality and diversity, and its practical application.
  • Experience of working closely with Executive and Board level audience, producing relevant reports and meeting statutory requirements.
  • Proven experience of coaching and mentoring including at senior levels of an Organisation.
  • Creative thinker and ability to solve complex problems.
