Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust for a Band 6 Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our brand-new Alcohol Care Team (ACT).

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a service being built from scratch. Backed by our Drug and Alcohol Strategy 2030, the ACT will transform how BHT identifies, treats and supports patients affected by alcohol-related harm - one of the biggest and fastest-growing causes of ill health in our local population. You will play a key role in delivering hands-on specialist care, supporting patients through detoxification, and helping to reduce the harm falling disproportionately on our most deprived communities.

The team will sit within Integrated Medicine and will be led by our newly appointed Matron for Gastroenterology - a great time to join a service with real backing, ambition and room to grow. You will work closely with colleagues across the acute site and with community and specialist partners including One Recovery Bucks and BeHealthyBucks.

We are looking for a motivated, compassionate nurse who enjoys working as part of a team and developing new specialist skills. A passion for tackling stigma and improving outcomes for vulnerable patients is a must.

Experience in alcohol care, addictions, liver disease or a related specialist field would be strongly desirable.

Main duties of the job
• Delivers direct specialist care to patients with alcohol dependence and related harm, working as part of the Alcohol Care Team.
• Supports systematic screening and assessment of patients across the acute site.
• Supports safe, structured alcohol detoxification pathways, moving away from unplanned, ad hoc care.
• Builds effective working relationships with specialist partners including One Recovery Bucks and BeHealthyBucks.
• Provides advice, education and support to colleagues, students and patients to build confidence and challenge stigma.
• Contributes to clinical audit and data collection to help demonstrate the impact of the new service.
• Works with the Band 7 lead and Matron to help shape and grow the service.
• Displays excellent communication and team-working skills, always championing person-centred, non-stigmatising care.
