Job summary

We are looking for an experienced senior operational leader to join the Medicine and Emergency Care Group as Deputy Associate Chief Operating Officer.

You will deputise for the Associate Chief Operating Officer and support operational teams to deliver performance, quality, activity and financial targets, while leading service improvement and transformation across the Care Group.

You will be a credible senior manager with strong acute hospital operational experience, a track record of delivering performance targets, and the confidence to lead change in complex services.

You will bring strong financial, analytical and planning skills, with experience of budget management, workforce planning, business case development and cost improvement delivery.

We are looking for someone resilient, pragmatic and able to influence, negotiate and motivate colleagues across professional and organisational boundaries.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deputise for the Associate Chief Operating Officer and support the effective running of Medicine and Emergency Care services. They will lead delivery against operational, quality, activity and financial targets, including national access standards, while working closely with clinical, nursing, finance, HR and corporate colleagues to deliver Care Group and Trust priorities.

The role will also lead service redesign, capacity and business planning, transformation and efficiency programmes, while supporting financial control, governance, risk management, complaints, quality improvement and inspection readiness.

Candidates will hold a degree or Masters-level qualification, or equivalent experience, and will have significant senior operational management experience within an acute hospital setting. They will have a proven track record of delivering performance, financial and service improvement objectives.

They will bring experience of business planning, transformation, organisational change and cost improvement, alongside a strong understanding of NHS strategy, governance, performance standards and financial management. The successful candidate will be confident analysing complex information and influencing senior stakeholders.
