Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Possessing the knowledge, skills and ability to staff in report and escalating incidents, dealing with complaints and handling sensitive issues and to support staff to escalate incidents. Working closely with the Inpatient Matron and Band 7 coordinator to ensure incidents are reported appropriately and reviewed.

Take the lead for the management of reported InPhase incidents pertaining to the delivery suite and works with the Inpatient matron in the on-going investigations of InPhase reported issues.

Ensure there is effective multi-disciplinary communication within Delivery Suite, the department, the service and with other agencies external to the Trust. Take responsibility for allocating staff members to attend relevant meetings within the service and external to the Trust.

Provides a management and educational forum for staff by leading service meetings and taking responsibility for the cascade of relevant information to the Delivery Suite midwives and support staff.

Participates in the selection process for new staff and student midwives. Plan and initiate induction and orientation programmes, which integrate newly qualified and new members of staff.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of Degree or masters qualification
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification


Desirable criteria
  • Newborn Life Support (NLS) Course
  • Management qualification/leadership course


Experience

Essential criteria
  • Suitable Post-Registration experience within relevant speciality at band 6 or above
  • Extensive clinical experience
  • In depth knowledge of antenatal high risk pathways
  • Evidence of continued professional development


Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in audit
  • Previous management experience
  • Evidence of the application of management/leadership skills and autonomous practice
  • Budget and resource management
