The Opportunity
Are you an experienced cycling coach who enjoys working with people, developing new ideas and making cycling opportunities happen? Join Cycle Derby as our Lead Coach - Schools, Clubs & Community and play a key role in helping more children and adults discover the enjoyment, confidence and independence that cycling can bring.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining cycle coaching with programme development, coordination and team leadership. You'll help strengthen, grow and promote our cycling services for schools, clubs and communities, while developing opportunities for adults to learn and build confidence cycling. You'll coordinate people, resources and delivery to help ensure our programmes run safely, consistently and effectively, working closely with the Active Travel Coordinator and supporting Cycle Trainers to deliver high-quality sessions. Alongside this, you'll continue to get involved in delivering cycling activities yourself.

What you'll be doing
• Develop, promote and organise a varied programme of cycling activities for schools, clubs, communities and holiday activity providers, helping to generate demand and increase participation.
• Build strong relationships with schools, community organisations, local cycling clubs and other partners, identifying opportunities where Cycle Derby's services could meet their needs.
• Develop and deliver cycling opportunities for adults, including individual and group sessions that help people learn to ride, build confidence, ride for pleasure or progress their cycling.
• Deliver a wide range of cycling activities, which may include learn-to-ride and confidence-building sessions, led rides, community activities and introductions to activities such as track, cyclo-cross and grass track.
• Plan and coordinate Cycle Trainers across different activities and locations, providing support, mentoring and supervision to help ensure consistent, safe and inclusive delivery.
• Help develop the Cycle Derby participation pathway, creating opportunities for people to progress from first-time or returning riders towards confident, independent and regular cycling.
• Promote Cycle Derby's activities through schools, community events and other channels, helping potential customers understand the benefits and value of the services we offer.
• Monitor participation and delivery information to help us understand what is working, plan future activity and demonstrate the impact of our programmes.

About you
To be successful in this role, you'll have:

• Experience delivering cycle training or coaching programmes for both children and adults.
• Relevant cycling coaching/instructor qualifications, including a British Cycling coaching qualification and National Standard Cycle Instructor qualification.
• Experience working with schools, community groups, clubs or similar organisations and building positive relationships with different audiences.
• The ability to motivate and support participants with different levels of cycling experience, confidence and ability.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate activities across different locations and manage competing priorities.
• Good IT and digital skills, with the ability to learn and confidently use systems to manage information, bookings and programme delivery.
• Experience supporting, mentoring or developing other coaches or instructors.
• Confidence promoting cycling activities, identifying opportunities and communicating the value of services to potential customers, schools, clubs and community organisations.
• A proactive and enthusiastic approach, with the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team.
• Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities when working with children, alongside a commitment to delivering safe, inclusive and high-quality cycling activities.
