Role PurposeCheshire Constabulary is seeking a highly motivated and resilient
Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) Level 2 to join our Forensic Investigations Unit on a
permanent basis. This is a vital operational role supporting criminal investigations and the wider justice process through the professional recovery, preservation and interpretation of forensic evidence, in line with the Forensic Science Regulator's Code of Practice and ISO 17020 requirements.
You will work both independently and as part of a specialist team, attending a wide range of scenes from volume crime to major investigations, ensuring evidence integrity from recovery through to court presentation.
Key Responsibilities- Attend, assess and process crime scenes ranging from dwelling burglaries to homicides, major incidents, and post-mortem examinations.
- Apply specialist forensic techniques to recover DNA, fingerprints, footwear, trace evidence and other material of evidential value.
- Record scenes using professional photography and produce detailed, accurate reports.
- Maintain continuity, integrity and security of all exhibits.
- Present evidence in court when required and participate in peer review processes.
- Ensure all work is compliant with ISO 17020, FSR Codes, and internal quality procedures.
- Engage in ongoing competency assessments, training, and professional development.
- Work shifts (08:00-22:00) and participate in an overnight on-call rota.
Essential Requirements- A proactive, resilient, and professional approach, with the ability to remain composed when dealing with challenging or distressing scenes.
- Educated to Level 6 (degree level) in a science-related subject OR able to evidence equivalent relevant experience.
- Full UK driving licence (mandatory).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex forensic findings clearly.
- Strong IT skills and confidence in using digital reporting and evidence management systems.
