Salus Ward, a newlydeveloped
16-bed mixed-gender acute inpatient unit for adults of workingage. This is an exciting opportunity to provide senior clinical leadershipwithin a modern, purpose-built environment designed to support recovery, safetyand high-quality care.
As Consultant Psychiatrist and
Responsible Clinician,you will provide expert clinical leadership for patients admitted to SalusWard, including those receiving informal care and those detained under theMental Health Act.
Lead assessment, diagnosis, treatment planningand risk management for adults experiencing acute mental health difficulties.
Providevisible consultant leadership across inpatient and urgent care pathways,supporting timely, patient-centred decision-making.
Workcollaboratively with community teams, home treatment services and inpatientcolleagues to support safe flow and effective discharge planning.
ShareResponsible Clinician duties with a
Multi-Professional Approved Clinician,with RC responsibilities split pro rata.
Contributeto the local consultant on-call rota, with cross-cover from consultantcolleagues across the area.
Supportand supervise
two junior doctors dedicated to the ward, contributing toa positive learning culture.

Main duties of the jobWe welcome applications from experienced consultants, doctors approaching their first NHS consultant post, international candidates and postretirement consultants seeking a rewarding clinical role. Experience in adult acute inpatient care is valued, but we also welcome psychiatrists from related specialties who bring strong clinical judgement, leadership and a commitment to excellent patient care.
Approved Clinician status is preferred but not essential, with support available for overseas candidates working towards approval. The role includes 2.5 SPAs (10 hours per week) for professional development. You will benefit from strong peer support through monthly peer groups, quarterly medical advisory committees and postgraduate meetings.
