Job summary2 x Substantive Posts (13.5 PAs Total) An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our busy and dynamic Paediatric Emergency Department through two substantive Consultant posts.
About the Role Applications are welcomed from candidates with appropriate training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, whether from a Paediatrics or Emergency Medicine background. These are substantive Consultant posts based within the Paediatric Emergency Department at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust. Job share arrangements will be considered.
The post holders will contribute to weekday and weekend working, including on call commitments, supporting consultant shop floor cover from 08:00 to midnight, 365 days a year. A self rostering consultant rota provides flexibility in working patterns.
About You o Possess, or be within six months of receiving, a CCT in Emergency Medicine or Paediatrics with sub specialty accreditation in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at the time of appointment.o Demonstrate equivalent clinical experience if not following the traditional CCT route.o Show strong commitment to high quality paediatric emergency care and collaborative team working.
Interviews expected to be held on
Friday 25th September 2026. Main duties of the job- Provide senior clinical leadership in the assessment, investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of children presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Supervise, support, and develop junior and middle-grade medical staff, including providing expert advice during on-call periods.
- Lead trauma team responses and participate in the consultant on-call rota to ensure timely emergency care delivery.
- Ensure the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the Emergency Department, including safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
- Contribute to service improvement through multidisciplinary collaboration, audit, research, clinical governance, and quality improvement activities

Person Specification Qualifications & Training Essential - MBBS or equivalent
- Relevant Specialist qualification or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in paediatric emergency medicine (through a paediatric or emergency medicine training pathway) or equivalent or within 6 months of gaining CCT
- MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
- APLS / EPLS provider
- Trauma course- ATLS, ETC, CAT or equivalent
- Valid Safeguarding level 3 training
- Valid BLS training
- Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application
