Job overview: We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join our forward-thinking surgical team as a Consultant Laparoscopic General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Upper GI surgery.
This is a dual-site post:
- Base and emergency on-call at Glangwili General Hospital
- Elective surgical activity at Withybush General Hospital, home to a JAG-accredited Endoscopy Unit
We are seeking a motivated, dynamic consultant who enjoys working in a supportive rural district general hospital setting, delivering high-quality care across a broad range of general surgical conditions.
There is one permanent post available, offered under the Consultant Contract (Wales) with an optional 10-session (37.5 hours) working week.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will:
o Deliver safe, high-quality clinical care across General Surgery, with a focus on Upper GI and laparoscopic surgeryo Participate in the emergency general surgery on-call rota (1:8)o Undertake elective procedures at Withybush General Hospital, including within a JAG-accredited endoscopy serviceo Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staffo Contribute to a multidisciplinary team environment, supporting service development and innovationo Support delivery of RTT and Standard Cancer Pathway (SCP) targetso Engage in teaching, training and educational supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate learnerso Participate in clinical audit, governance, and quality improvement initiativeso Work collaboratively with primary care and community teams to enhance patient pathwayso Maintain continuing professional development and revalidation requirements

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge Essential - Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council.
- On the GMC Specialist Register (including via Portfolio Pathway (CESR)/European Community Rights) or will have CCT due within six months of interview date.
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
- Where a sub-specialty interest is required sub-specialty training should be to a level appropriate for UK consultant sub-specialist practice - fellowship or equivalent level experience.
