Job Title: CONNECT Investigation & Safeguarding Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Salary: The starting salary is £48,995, which includes allowances totalling £3,009.
The salary is broken down as £45,986 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £54,863. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location: London & Hybrid (60% / 3-days per week in office). The 'home base' Met location for this role is Newlands Park (SE26 5NF). We offer the flexibility to work in a Hybrid way, where you can deliver your best, including Working from Home (WFH). Travel across the Met Estate, to attend meetings as required by the business, is expected.
This role does not attract Shift Disturbance Allowance. If you are currently in a shift-working role, SDA should cease upon appointment to this job.

Job PurposeThe CONNECT SME - Investigation owns the development and continuous improvement of the Investigation component of the CONNECT solution. Operating under the supervision of the CONNECT Functional Lead, this role provides deep subject matter expertise in Investigation-related policing, ensuring the module reflects the operational realities of frontline and specialist Investigation-related policing. The SME is a trusted authority within the MPS, relied upon for their extensive knowledge of both CONNECT and Investigation-related processes. Their insight ensures the CONNECT system supports critical decision-making, evidential integrity, and public confidence in policing outcomes.
This is a specialist role and requires expert knowledge of the module area, expert CONNECT knowledge and current operational policing processes, whilst also building competence across all other CONNECT modules.
Key Role Responsibilities- Act as the recognised expert in the Investigation safeguarding space.
- Act as the functional and configuration CONNECT lead for the delivery of Investigation and Safeguarding processes.
- Act as the liaison between CONNECT, D&I, and wider MPS internal / external stakeholders (Crown Prosecution Service, the Home Office and others) to identify and address CONNECT business requirements and requests.
- Liaise with MPS Risk Owners, Lead Responsible Officers, Tactical Policy advisers and Subject Matter Experts across CONNECT and the MPS to guide the formulation of policy.
- Develop low-level and high-level designs to document revised Investigation module processes that better align with both current and future business requirements.
- Manage business cases, change requests and investigation configuration.
- Conduct thorough impact assessments of proposed CONNECT changes.
- Provide expert knowledge and technical assistance to any major incident management processes concerning the Investigation module.
- Identify, manage, support and triage reported defects related to Investigation.
Vetting ClearanceThis post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post.
Working PatternEmployment: Permanent, Full-Time (36-hours per week)
Hybrid Working available in line with the Metropolitan Police Service hybrid working policy.
The role requires that you attend the Newlands Park office (SE26 5NF) 3-days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between the core hours of 10:00 to 16:00.
You will be expected to work from a Met location for at least three days a week (60% of working time) to support our operational teams and collaborate effectively. For up to two days per week (no more than 40% of working time), you may be permitted to work from home, balancing flexibility with organisational need.

Essential For The Role
Essential Criteria:Knowledge- Understanding of the public sector and/or knowledge of operational policing practices.
- Knowledge of safeguarding legislation including the Children Act, Care Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children, Domestic Abuse legislation, Data Protection Act and UK GDPR.
- Experience of safeguarding investigations, public protection, vulnerability management or multi-agency safeguarding processes.
- Understanding of safeguarding risk assessment, referral management and information-sharing protocols.
- Understanding of change request processes, including impact assessments.
Skills- Skilled in collaboration and stakeholder management.
- Proven ability to deliver to agreed deadlines.
- Core problem solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Evidence of inclusive behaviour.
- Ability to create and complete a change request, and impact assess change requests generated from other internal/external stakeholders.
Experience- Experience working in large and complex environments and multi-disciplined teams.
- Core product development and product ownership experience.
- Previous experience of large-scale public sector projects.
- Experience of identifying risks and recording these within a risk log.
- Experience of identifying and mapping dependencies.
- Experience of creating and presenting materials to senior audiences.
