40,500 per annum

At the Royal Town Planning Institute (the RTPI), we champion the value of planning in building thriving places and communities. With over 27,000 members worldwide, we support planners at every stage of their career: raising professional standards, shaping planning policy, and proudly awarding chartered status, the highest professional accreditation in UK planning.

For over a century, we have empowered planners to deliver positive impact: creating healthy, inclusive, economically and environmentally sustainable places. As the voice of the profession, we advocate, support, and lead with purpose, professionalism, and passion.

Planning reform has dominated the headlines in recent years and we are now moving into a delivery stage. As such we are looking for someone who can help us shape that landscape and promote the planning system as a whole. This role will be crucial in helping to raise public awareness of the RTPI's role through traditional media channels.

This is an opportunity to join a team at an important time for the profession and the institute. You will work alongside our social media officer, web manager and member communications officer to ensure that RTPI's activity is carried by a variety of media outlets. You will also work with the wider institute to help them develop media lines from their existing projects and have a close working relationship with our membership magazine The Planner.

You will have a good understanding of how media can be used to reach multiple audiences and which outlets are best for which message. You will also be able to integrate social media and web content activity into wider campaign work to support media activity where required. You will also have a good understanding of how to build relationships with our key journalists and understand the news cycle.
