Person specificationQualifications Essential criteria - BSc. Or MSc. in Dietetics OR BSc. in relevant science plus Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in Dietetics
- Member of relevant clinical specialist interest group(s)
- Completion of validated/nationally recognised post-graduate training in the clinical specialist area(s)
- Completion of post grad training courses in: First line Management Leadership/team building Motivational interviewing / cognitive behaviour therapy Clinical educator skills
- State registration via Health and Care Professions Council
Desirable criteria - MSc. in relevant field
- Registered member of the British Dietetic Association
- Audit and Research training to a postgraduate level
- Basic food hygiene certificate
- Ability to speak a second language
Experience Essential criteria - Significant postgraduate clinical experience working as a highly specialist Dietitian in the relevant specialist field
- Significant experience of line management of staff
- Understanding of evidence of experience in clinical governance and its implications for services including quality issues, audit and evidence based practice
- Advanced level of knowledge of current best dietetic practice in the clinical specialist area
- Advanced knowledge of local and national policies and procedures e.g. British Dietetic Association/Health and Care Professions Council Code of Conduct/Ethics, NSFs, Health and Safety, Infection Control, Equality and Diversit
- Evidence of relevant Continual Professional Development to an advanced practitioner level
- Experience of and commitment of interdisciplinary and uni-disciplinary team working
- Evidence of contribution to clinical education and in-service training of other health care workers, organisations, less experienced staff/students and assistants
- Experience of working in an area of cultural diversity
- Demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding practices relevant to the clinical area
Desirable criteria - Knowledge of primary care, community and Intermediate Care Services
- Evidence of participation in post registration and published papers

- Ability to motivate and negotiate to encourage reluctant and challenging patients
- Proven ability to lead, inspire and encourage the team

- Able to work autonomously with ability to seek guidance appropriately from peers both internal and external to the Trust
- Ability to reflect and critically appraise own and others practise
- Effective written communication skills e.g. clinical records, reports to other health care professionals and external agencies
- Empathetic and able to deliver unpleasant news
- Advanced presentation skills, including experience of giving talks /chairing large groups
- Computer literacy
- Able to adapt to working in different specialities and different environments (e.g. diabetes centre, community clinics)
- Safe and effective handling of unpleasant substances/environments.
