Main purpose of the job: As a Clinical Skills Demonstrator, you will play a key role in supporting clinical skills and simulation-based learning within agreed modules and sessions across nursing and wider healthcare disciplines. You will contribute to a high standard of education through close collaboration with module and programme leaders. Through adaptability, creativity, and a willingness to explore innovative approaches, you will support academic colleagues in preparing and delivering engaging clinical skills and simulation learning activities for our students. As a registered healthcare professional with a strong grounding in clinical practice, you will contribute to high- quality clinical skills teaching and simulation-based education. As a committed and motivated professional, you will inspire and support students to develop their confidence and competence. The School has grown rapidly, with state-of-the-art simulation facilities across our Roehampton and Croydon campuses. Main duties and responsibilities:

1. In collaboration with the relevant member of academic staff responsible for the module(s), contribute to the design, development, delivery and evaluation of innovative and high-quality clinical skills teaching and simulation across all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

2. Work with module leaders to provide input into the creation of resources such as lesson plans, case studies, worksheets, and demonstration videos informed by research and professional practice.

3. Where required, have input into/inform module leaders and/or programme leaders on module delivery (e.g. during programme away days, curriculum design planning meetings or addressing student feedback).

4. Assist with the preparation and assessment of skills competency via Objective Structured Clinical Examinations.

5. To provide proactive and ad hoc support for students on clinical skills and simulation outside the teaching sessions. This includes but not limited to: Drop-in sessions; Assessment preparation support and Resit assessment support

6. Be able to understand the specific requirements of students from diverse backgrounds and learning needs and be able to respond appropriately and supportively.

7. Work with the technical team to ensure appropriate use of resources and support sustainability of the programmes delivered.

8. Deliver safe and effective practice learning environments for clinical skills and simulation to prepare students for clinical settings in preparation for a variety of placement and future employment.

9. Assist with student recruitment activities including open days/evenings and outreach activities.

10. Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and have input into wider school planning via school meetings and other formal or informal means of input (e.g. meetings with line manager, programme team meetings, etc.)

11. To undertake any other requirements commensurate with the seniority of the post/as required by the Senior Leadership Team in the School.

Education and Qualifications

Essential • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline • Current professional registration (NMC / HCPC) with no restrictions

Desirable • Recognised teaching qualification/HEA fellowship or willingness to

undertake

Knowledge and skills

Essential

• The ability to produce teaching material in collaboration with the module lead

• The ability to support teaching delivery and demonstrate clinical skills safely and effectively

• Relevant and current skills and knowledge as evidenced through up to date/recent qualifications and/or continuing professional development and clinical practice

• Understanding of clinical skills development, patient safety and professional standards

Desirable

• BLS and/or Patient handling and/or breakaway trainer qualifications • eLfH Becoming Simulation Faculty modules • Experience of developing and/or delivering simulation-based

education activities • Experience of debriefing using a recognised framework/model

Work experience

Essential • Experience of working in a clinical healthcare setting

• Experience of supporting learners in the development of clinical skills in clinical practice or in the classroom

Desirable • Previous experience within a teaching environment • Experience of developing, delivering and evaluating formal teaching

Communication skills

Essential

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to support clinical

skills and simulation-based learning within agreed modules and

sessions • The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and students

Desirable • Experience of communicating effectively with students in a practice

environment for the purpose of learning, support, and assessment

Other requirements

Essential • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and able to

prioritise and manage workload to deadlines

• Enthusiasm for innovative course curriculum development

• A willingness to work collaboratively with a multi-professional team and undertake cross site working as required

Additional Information • The appointment is offered on a Fixed term and either Full or Part-time basis immediately, subject to

references • The appointment is usually made at the bottom of the range. Where a candidate's current total

remuneration already exceeds the bottom point, consideration will be given to the level of skills, experience and profile that the candidate is bringing to the role. The total remuneration of other staff doing the same or similar work within the department who have similar skills, experience and profile should also be taken into account.

• During term time this role is required to be on campus everyday. Outside of term time, the role can accommodate service-led hybrid working arrangements which may allow for 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home although peak times might require flexibility and any hybrid arrangement will be determined by the service and in agreement with the line manager.

• This appointment will not require a DBS check • The annual leave entitlement is 30 days p.a., additionally there are 3 - 4 days for the University's

operational efficiency initiatives at Christmas • Your normal hours of work will be between 35-40 hours per week, plus a lunch break of one hour each

day, with a full professional commitment expected entailing working flexibly beyond core hours if required
