Job overview

The post holder will be based within the Imperial Clinical Respiratory Research Unit at St Mary's Hospital and will contribute to bronchoscopy support for research studies and to support NHS activity across all the ICHT sites. These include studies in asthma, COPD, respiratory viral infections, tuberculosis, pleural disease, and interstitial lung disease.

The post provides six months of dedicated research time for a clinician with an interest in respiratory medicine who wishes to develop their research experience and explore future academic opportunities. The post holder will be based across SMH and HH working on clinical studies in patients with respiratory disease or infections. They will be the core member of the bronchoscopy platform for the BRC as supervised by Professor Onn Min Kon. The post also supports the clinical Respiratory service by attending TB clinics and also helping with bronchoscopy lists at ICHT - this provides additional income and service resilience. They will be expected to perform research bronchoscopies across study sites and contribute to the delivery of the wider research programme.

The successful candidate will be supervised by Professor Onn Min Kon, Consultant Respiratory Physician and Head of the Tuberculosis Service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Act as a key member of the respiratory research team across sites.
• Perform Research and Clinical Bronchoscopies across sites
• Oversee recruitment, delivery, and follow-up activities for clinical trials.
• Support the management and governance requirements of clinical research studies.
• Develop and deliver independent research projects under supervision.
• Attend TB outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings to support learning and facilitate research recruitment.
• Contribute to data collection, analysis, presentations, manuscript preparation, and publication of research findings.
• Work collaboratively with clinical, academic, and research colleagues across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London.

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria

• On GMC's register with a Licence to Practice.
• Membership of the Royal College of Physicians.

Knowledge/skills

Essential criteria

• Thorough knowledge and experience of Internal Medicine.
• Experience of working in the NHS.
• IT Skills and computer literacy.

Leadership/ Management skills

Essential criteria

• Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority

Teaching & Training

Essential criteria

• Experience of teaching and training undergraduates / postgraduates and junior medical staff

Desirable criteria

• Formal training in teaching skills

Audit

Essential criteria

• Understanding of principles of clinical audit. Demonstration of active participation of clinical audit

Desirable criteria

• Presentation/Publication of audits

Academic achievements including research/publications

Essential criteria

• Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at registrar level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

Language

Essential criteria

• Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
