Job description
About the roleWe are looking to recruit a Clinical Project Manager to play a key role in our new Medical Research Council (MRC)-funded Experimental Medicine study, "MiroDose". This study aims to characterise the role of PDE5 inhibition in cerebral small vessel disease and support development of treatments. to improve outcomes. Small vessel disease is a very common but under-recognised cause of major neurological disability, and is one of the main causes of ischaemic stroke, brain haemorrhage and dementia.
You will primarily be working to manage and deliver the MiroDose study, led by Professor Alastair Webb , but will also support other studies in his Imperial Small Vessel Disease group that underpin recruitment to MiroDose. MiroDose is a two-centre, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging study where patients with small vessel disease receive different doses of 'mirodenafil,' a drug similar to 'Viagra', for a few weeks at a time. They then undergo detailed physiological testing with ultrasound of the brain and technical, physiological MRI brain scans.
You will be a key part of the Imperial Small Vessel Disease Group, working particularly closely with the other members of the MiroDose team at Imperial (Prof Webb, Dr Fatemeh Geranmayeh, a clinical research fellow and a research assistant), as well as the study team at our second site at St George's. You will also be working with the other post-doctoral fellows, clinical research fellows, PhD students and research assistants that comprise the wider Small Vessel Disease group led by Prof Webb within the Department of Brain Sciences.
What you would be doingYou will be responsible for all aspects of study management. This will include involvement and coordination of study set-up at Imperial College London, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, St George's Hospital and City St George's University London, in close liaison with Prof Webb. Duties will include leading on the development of study documentation, regulatory submissions, drug logistics, liaison with our commercial collaborator (Aribio Ltd), protocol development, monitoring progress and performance of the study and recruitment from both centres, ensuring efficient recruitment and reliable data collection. This will be achieved through implementing / adapting established procedures to ensure the studies are conducted in accordance with contractual agreements, study protocol, study-specific processes and systems, SOPs, regulatory and ethical requirements and ICH-GCP guidelines, as well as delivered to time and within budget constraints. You will liaise closely with the participant-facing staff, including the clinical research fellows, Research Assistants, PhD students and NIHR RDN support staff. You will also support the coordination of patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) and study monitoring activities, and attracting further research funding to the group.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a study that could pave the way to a new treatment for one of the commonest causes of neurological disability, including stroke, dementia and declining mobility.
What we are looking forYou should have experience in the coordination or management of biomedical or clinical research studies (preferably within a university, NHS, or research organisation setting). You should have proven ability to successfully deliver on complex research projects, including working to timelines, regulatory requirements, and recruitment targets, alongside of experience of clinical research delivery. You must be able to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, and have an understanding of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) in clinical research.
What we can offer you - A unique opportunity to work on an exciting experimental study
- Join a highly multi-disciplinary group in a world-leading institution
Further informationThis is a part-time (50% FTE) fixed term post until 31 January 2030. You will be based principally at the Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital, in Prof Webb's group, and will be expected to spend 60% of your time on-site in line with Imperial's Work Location framework. You will be expected to travel between sites and also potentially to collaborating research sites, e.g., St George's Hospital.
Should you require any further details on the role please contact: Prof Alastair Webb (
