  • To sustain a high-quality specialist service for the patient, from diagnosis through all stages of the disease and actively provide optimum liaison and continuity of care.
  • To discuss in-depth all treatment options, including research-based treatments for Gynaecological cancers with sensitivity, knowledge and expertise to enable patients to make an informed choice. To act as patient advocate when appropriate and respecting patient confidentiality and privacy with respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and requirements.
  • In collaboration with Clinical Nurse Specialist colleagues, to formulate and/or revise relevant policies and to regularly review this following change/implementation. To work within the procedures and policies of the Trust.
  • In conjunction with Clinical Nurse Specialist colleagues, to develop assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients with complex needs are referred to the appropriate specialist/s.
  • To initiate maintain nurse-led and 'telephone clinics' whereby patients are provided with information and support and the problems and needs of patients and their carers are assessed and appropriately channelled and referred to other services as required.
  • To initiate, run and evaluate appropriate group support in conjunction with other relevant professional disciplines.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registration
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Qualification in oncology or speciality Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of master's level learning or prepared to work towards
  • Be willing to undertake Trust CNS role development programme or be able to demonstrate equivalent competencies


Experience

Essential criteria
  • In-depth Gynae-oncology specialist experience sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job.
  • Experience as a senior staff nurse in oncology nursing


Desirable criteria
  • Experience in chemotherapy administration
  • Experience of Surgery for Gynae-oncology
  • Experience of Radiotherapy for Gynae-oncology
  • Experience in Clinical Management
  • Evidence of relevant teaching experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical trials management
  • Previous experience of working as a clinical nurse specialist
  • Experience of audit and research


Skills, Abilities/knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • Venepuncture and/or cannulation skills

Flu Vaccination - What We Expect of our Staff

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
