Job summary

This is a 4 months fixed term Clinical fellow (ST3-5) post in Paediatrics is aligned with the RCPCH-approved higher specialty training programme (Level 2), offering rotational experience across general Paediatrics, neonatology, emergency care, and sub-specialties. The successful candidate will gain advanced skills in acute and chronic management, leadership, and multidisciplinary coordination, preparing for consultant-level practice. The post includes on-call duties (Tier 2 rota), ward rounds, out patient clinics, procedures, teaching, and quality improvement projects. Training is supervised by an Educational Supervisor, with ePortfolio maintenance and ARCP progression aligned to GMC and RCPCH standards.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a service to patients of theWorcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attendmulti-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to workwithin multi-disciplinary team in providing high quality clinical care.
  • Responsible for the continuing care andtreatment of patients in their charge and personal performance of clinicalduties.
  • provide support to the A&E department andacute medicine to ensure timelyappropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
  • Attend Consultant ward rounds and triage wardreferrals.
  • Prepare patients for planned treatment andprocedures, including post-operative care as required.
  • Provide consultation and advisory service toclinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care, including dischargesummaries.

Experience

Essential

  • Completed at least four years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part time basis) or have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required at CT/ST3 level in relevant specialty. Equivalent years' experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective, within specialty and sufficient experience.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
Desirable

  • Previous experience working in the NHS within the specialty of minimum of 12 months at Tertiary or Level 2 NNU.
  • Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making.
Teaching Experience

Essential

  • Ability to organise and deliver teaching across the whole undergraduate curriculum.
  • Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation and completion of audit projects.

  • Critical appraisal skills.
Qualifications

  • Eligible for full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • MB ChB, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Satisfactory completion of ST1-2 training, or equivalent.
  • Membership examination with the relevant UK Royal College.
  • ALS Certification.
  • ATLS Certification.
  • NLS certification.
Desirable

  • Higher degree.
  • Attendance at recognised management courses.
  • Formal qualification in teaching/education.
