Job overviewThis role is essential to the delivery of the Nationally Commissioned Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) Service, providing specialist care for patients with a rare but potentially life-threatening condition. The postholder supports acute and inpatient care, outpatient services, emergency treatment provision, and coordination with specialist nurses, the National Screening Service, and oncology teams across the UK to ensure timely and effective patient management.
Main duties of the job•
Provide high quality care to patients in oncology servicesThe post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration.
o To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
o To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities.
o To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

Research, teaching and trainingo Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of research governance.
o To provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by clinical director.

Performance managementTo work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:
§ Clinical efficiency e.g. LOS reductions
§ Quality of outcomes e.g. infection control targets, reducing re-admission rates
§ Financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes and participating in efforts to ensure services are provided cost effectively e.g. managing locum agency spend, monitoring and managing the drug budget to target, ensuring accuracy of clinical data for the team
§ Operational efficiency e.g. admission avoidance, day case review and management

Desirable criteria - MRCP part 2 completed
- Completion of core medical training
- Membership of the Royal College of Physicians part II
Audit Essential criteria - Understanding of principles of clinical audit
Desirable criteria - Service improvement experience
Clinical Skills Essential criteria - Excellent team and communication skills
- Experience and competencies in acute oncology emergencies
- IT Skills and computer literacy
Desirable criteria - Prior oncology experience
Leadership/ management skills Essential criteria - Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
Teaching and training Desirable criteria - Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff
