Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Clinical Engineering Technician, you will play a key role in supporting patient care by ensuring medical equipment across the Trust is safe, reliable, and fully operational. You will undertake the maintenance, repair, calibration, testing, and commissioning of a wide range of medical devices, provide specialist technical support to clinical teams, and contribute to equipment safety, quality assurance, risk management, and staff training. The role also involves liaising with external suppliers and manufacturers, maintaining accurate service records, supporting service improvement initiatives, and helping to deliver a high-quality Clinical Engineering service across Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital.

Education & Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Degree, HND, HNC, BTEC, OND, ONC in an appropriate engineering discipline, i.e. Electronics, Mechanics etc


Desirable criteria
  • Registered Clinical Technologist


Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and also to work independently, making potentially complex and technical decisions without supervision
  • Ability to prepare documents and papers that may have a wide, multidisciplinary audience


Personal qualities

Essential criteria
  • Be able to physically lift heavy equipment, carry out repetitive equipment testing and work in awkward positions several times each day
