Kirklees Council is looking for people to join our team of Civil Enforcement Officers, who manage and enforce parking regulations and restrictions across the district. Benefits of working with us include:

This is a part-time, term-time-only role working 18.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Typical working hours will be between 07:45 to 10:00 and 14:00 to 16:15, covering school drop-off and pick-up periods. Patrol times may vary according to the schools allocated and operational requirements.

Working from one of our bases in Huddersfield and Dewsbury you will be the public face of Parking Services, tackling and resolving a variety of parking issues in a fair and consistent way. You will be an ambassador for the Council, helping customers and members of the public with parking related queries and complaints. You will provide a highly visible presence at designated schools across North or South Kirklees, helping to address unsafe and inconsiderate parking and improve compliance with parking restrictions.

You will patrol either North or South Kirklees, checking that vehicles are parked correctly in car parks and on street, and where necessary issuing Penalty Charge Notices (parking tickets). Your focus will be on school locations with deployment to other areas as operationally required. You will patrol mainly on foot in all weathers, sometimes driving a Council van or taking public transport to other locations.

A key part of the role is positive engagement and education. You will work professionally with parents, carers, school staff, drivers and local residents, offering advice and guidance to encourage safer and more considerate parking behaviour around school sites.

Full training will be given, with an initial 6-week induction period during which you will work alongside an experienced officer. When you have completed your training, you will be able to deal with a range of parking offences (contraventions). You will also check the condition of parking machines and signs during your patrol, reporting any issues to your supervisor.

There will occasionally be opportunities to work with the police and other partner agencies, either during the day or in the evening.

You need to be able to demonstrate good communication skills and a calm approach when dealing with members of the public. You may on occasion be deployed in plain clothes as part of our strategy to identify and tackle blue badge misuse.

Travel between schools is an essential part of the role. You must hold a valid driving licence that allows you to drive in the UK and be able to travel independently between allocated school locations across the Kirklees District.
