Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Recruitment

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust recognises that applicants may choose to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools as a supportive aid when preparing their application, for example to help generate ideas, improve grammar, or structure responses. Applicants are encouraged to ensure that any AI-supported content accurately reflects their own skills, experience, and motivation for the role.

The Trust also uses AI-enabled technology within its recruitment and onboarding processes to support efficiency, consistency, and fairness. These tools are used to assist administrative and operational stages of recruitment, which includes assisting with shortlisting activity. AI does not replace human decision-making. All shortlisting and appointment decisions are made by trained recruiters and appointing managers, based on individual merit, evidence and Trust values.

UHL is committed to the responsible, ethical, and transparent use of AI, ensuring our recruitment processes remain inclusive, fair, and compliant with NHS requirements and data protection legislation.

Main duties of the job

This role requires a combination of strategic acumen, political awareness, system leadership, and partnership influence.

Budget: Responsible for multi-million-pound digital and innovation budgets (> £10 million), ensuring strategic return on investment, value for money, and funding from grants and partnerships.

Staff: Leads a diverse senior digital workforce across disciplines. Accountable for their development, training, appraisal, wellbeing and performance.

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:
  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
