We're looking for our next Caretaker.

After many years of dedicated service, our Caretaker is moving on, which means we have a very special opportunity for someone new to become an important part of our school community.
Althorpe and Keadby Primary School is a happy, welcoming and community-focused school, located in Keadby on the outskirts of Scunthorpe. We are now looking for the right person to join our team as our new Caretaker.

In keeping with our school ethos, 'Together We Grow', our Caretaker holds a special place within school life. They are at the heart of the day-to-day running of our school - a trusted, valued and established member of the team who helps ensure that our children and staff have a safe, smart and welcoming environment in which to learn and work.

We are looking for someone who understands the importance of community, takes genuine pride in their work and wants to make a positive contribution to our school.

The right candidate will have a strong work ethic, share our ethos and values, and be willing to turn their hand to the many different jobs that help keep a busy school running smoothly. Most importantly, they will understand that everything we do is about providing the very best environment for our very special children to learn, thrive and grow.

If you are practical, dependable, hardworking and take pride in making a difference, we would love to hear from you.

In addition, our previous caretaker was also our forest school lead - while not essential, there is the opportunity to discuss adding this to the role for the right candidate who may be able to bring these additional skills.

The Role:
We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Caretaker to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the school's buildings, grounds, and facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all.

Key Responsibilities:
Carry out security procedures, including opening and closing the premises and ensuring the safety of the school grounds.
Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and regular building compliance checks.
Respond to emergencies such as re, flood, or adverse weather conditions, including clearing snow and gritting pathways.
Monitor cleanliness and hygiene across the site, including emergency cleaning as required.

Why Join Us? Be part of a supportive and dedicated team in a thriving school community. Make a meaningful impact on the lives of our students.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and safeguarding checks will be carried out.

In accordance with the updated guidelines outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026, it is important to note that as part of our rigorous due diligence process for shortlisted candidates, an online search will be conducted. This essential step allows us to proactively identify any publicly available incidents or issues related to the candidates, which we may want to explore further during the interview stage.

Please be aware that once the initial shortlisting has been completed, this online search will be performed for all candidates scheduled to attend an interview. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the children and individuals in our care, and this precautionary measure aligns with our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safeguarding.
