Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assist with the management and provision of an efficient and comprehensive administration support within the Cardiology Department.

Ensure that you contribute to the department operating to the highest standards and that it not only meets but exceeds customer expectations.

To manage the speciality administration and workload, ensuring appropriate delegation of tasks to other members of the speciality team in accordance with the correct procedures and policies.

Assist the Cardiology Lead Nurse to develop and support the team on the range of competencies required.

Significantly contribute to the delivery of Trust standards for booking and administration procedures.

Significantly contribute to the delivery of pathways for patients encompassing Cardiology services and other external specialities. This will include actively monitoring and tracking patients on the Cardiology waiting lists.

Ensure information is recorded on all systems in a timely fashion, escalating any breaches and updating pathways.

Actively take part in team meetings to ensure the department is flexible in its approach to changing workloads.

Deal sensitively and effectively with telephone enquiries from patients, relatives and colleagues ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.

Undertake MPA's for the Cardiology Specialist Nurse Administration team.

Manage annual leave and sickness reporting ensuring all records are updated in a timely fashion.

To perform all allocated tasks required to meet the needs of the service.

To undergo training as necessary to meet the needs of new developments within the Service. To identify training for other members of the team in conjunction with the Cardiology Lead Nurse and Cardiology Service Manager.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • Holds GCSE English Language at Grade A - C (or equivalent)
  • ECDL or equivalent experience


Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 3 Business and Administration


Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous NHS administration experience
  • Experience of working with general public and/or professionals
  • Experience of using Careflow(Patient Admissions System) and CVIS (Tomcat) booking database


Desirable criteria
  • Experience of staff management


Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to facilitate change within the work area
  • Ability to teach others acquired knowledge and skills


Desirable criteria
  • Understanding and working practice of NHS performance targets including 6 week diagnostic & 18-week referral to treatment times


Skills

Essential criteria
  • Can demonstrate good standards of written and verbal communication.
  • System administration knowledge
  • Strong & Flexible approach to work with good organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure to ensure. deadlines are achieved and short notice requests are met.

Disclosure & Barring Check Fee

Where your role requires a DBS check, the Trust will pay the fee upfront and reclaim the cost (including a £5 admin fee) from your first month's salary. Volunteers are exempt.
