About the Role

Are you a passionate and resilient Behaviour Mentor looking for a rewarding opportunity supporting young people who may face barriers to education? We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) or Alternative Provision (AP) setting, where you'll play a key role in helping pupils manage their behaviour, develop positive relationships, and re-engage with education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build positive, trusting, and supportive relationships with pupils who may present with challenging behaviour, emotional difficulties, or additional needs.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring and support to help pupils develop positive attitudes towards learning and personal development.
  • Support pupils in managing their behaviour, emotions, and responses to challenging situations.
  • Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, self-esteem, and positive social skills.
  • Implement strategies and interventions to support positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs, and other professionals to identify and support pupils' individual needs.
  • Support pupils to re-engage with education and develop the skills needed to make positive progress.
  • Promote positive behaviour and high expectations in line with the school's behaviour policies and procedures.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging behaviour, following agreed behaviour management and safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, behaviour, interventions, and relevant incidents.
  • Support the safeguarding and wellbeing of all pupils at all times.

Requirements
  • A strong understanding of behaviour management and the ability to respond calmly and consistently to challenging situations.
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • A resilient, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting young people.
  • The ability to promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in learning.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting pupils' personal, social, emotional, and educational development.
