Education/Qualification

Essential criteria

• MBBS, MRCPCH, Completed Postgraduate Medical Training (CCT in the relevant specialty)
• Full GMC registration with a license to practice
• On the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview
• Capable to work at Consultant level in Community Child Health
• Current and full registration with the appropriate professional body
• Satisfactory Appraisal within the last 12 months (or within the most recent 12 months of work, if currently on a career break)
• A positive recommendation for revalidation where appropriate Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

• Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or other higher degree

Experience

Essential criteria

• Is able to demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to

• Extensive experience in a Community Paediatrics clinical setting including safeguarding
• Experience of driving improvement and ensuring patient safety through clinical governance systems
• Experience of managing underperformance and the ability to foster effective performance within clinical practice
• Demonstrate an ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams
• Ability to anticipate and plan for change
• Good working knowledge of professional requirements and standards for healthcare professionals including appraisals
• Evidence and experience of networking with a wide range of stakeholders including the public, external commercial organisations and national strategic bodies
• Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
• Valid BLS Training

Desirable criteria

• Experience in other areas relevant to Community Child Health e.g. General Practice, Child Mental Health, Public Health, Paediatric Neurology, Paediatric Neurodisability
• Specialist experience in one or more particular areas of Community Child Health practice to take a lead role in that area
• Experience of job planning, medical appraisals and revalidation for medical workforce
• Experience in case management and or case investigation
• Experience and evidence of effective chairing skills, facilitation and conflict resolution ability
• Experience in the assessment, development and delivery of clinical education
• Valid APLS and NLS (this may be mandatory for some posts).

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
• Evidence of achievement of level 3 competencies in Community Child Health
• Proven ability to set clear direction and articulate a compelling vision
• Knowledge of the national, regional and local policy and priorities for healthcare
• Good knowledge and understanding of performance management and improvement techniques
• Knowledge of clinical governance systems to secure quality and safety
• Influencing and negotiating skills
• Strategic and operational leadership skills

Desirable criteria

• Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and make decisions
• Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively e.g. report writing; thesis
• Experience of acting in the capacity of an appraiser for the purposes of medical revalidation
• Experience of acting as case investigator for case investigation

Academic

Essential criteria

• Participation in research or clinical audit
• Participation in departmental teaching

Desirable criteria

• Formal research training; demonstrated ability to design a research or audit project
• Formal training in teaching methods; demonstrated ability in teaching / training

Management

Essential criteria

• Understanding of management issues including medical management; clinical governance, service planning and quality improvement Willingness to lead service developments
