Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic audiologist to join our friendly, dedicated team based at The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. The post will involve working at The Royal London Hospital and Homerton Hospital. We have a comprehensive audio-vestibular service and hearing therapy service based at The Royal London Hospital.

You must be a good communicator, confident working autonomously and as an enthusiastic team-member. You must have either a BSc in Healthcare Science Audiology or MSc in Audiological Science, with clinical competency. You should be registered with the RCCP as an Audiologist or the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist (Audiology).

Students completing qualifications this year are welcome to apply, but any offer will be conditional based on completion of degrees.

About the service:
Our multi-professional audiology team is well-integrated, mutually supportive and keen to develop excellent services together. Audiology is managed by Bart's Health and we have sites across Tower Hamlets, City & Hackney, Newham, Waltham Forest and Redbridge.

We have around 100 members of staff which includes Clinical Scientists, Audiologists, Assistant Technical officers, Newborn Hearing Screeners and administrative staff.

We are a well-integrated, innovative and mutually supportive team, and provide an excellent service to a challenging population. We also provide accredited training and placements for students on Audiology BSc, MSc, ASCP and STP programmes.

Main duties of the job
• To provide diagnostic audiological testing of adults, to be responsible for the safe use and calibration of equipment and ensuring accurate records are maintained.
• To provide a comprehensive hearing aid service to adults including determining care plans for individual patients, and involving carers and families as appropriate.
• To take an active role in areas of clinical audit, research and clinical governance for the Audiology service and contributing to the development of evidence based protocols.
• To plan and prioritise elements of own workload, within the framework of service delivery priorities as defined by the line manager, and supervise the work of trainees/students and volunteers as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Audiology Degree with one year clinical placement and evidence of clinical competence Or MSc in Audiological Science with the Certificate of Clinical Competence.

Desirable criteria

• Evidence of CPD
• British Sign Language
• Registered or in process of registration for Voluntary registration with RCCP
• Membership of BAA and/or BSA

Experience

Essential criteria

• Clinical placement, with evidence of broad experience and attainment as above, or broad experience as a band 5
• Experience of working within the NHS

Desirable criteria

• Small area of responsibility within audiology and/or general administration

Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Knowledge of Audiological test procedures
• Deaf Awareness

Desirable criteria

• Theoretical knowledge of Paediatric Audiology, and advanced Audiological test techniques.
