Job description

Assistant Ecologist (£29,542 - £32,046) Full time, Temporary 12 months

Now is the time to work for Warwickshire County Council; the first Council to deliver Biodiversity Net Gain and at the forefront of other nature markets, the next being District Level Licencing for great crested newts (GCN).

We are looking for an officer to support the delivery of a NatureSpace Partnership GCN district level licence across Warwickshire, Coventry & Solihull local authorities.

You will work closely with the NatureSpace Partnership, developers, private sector ecologists, and the wider team to provide a complete package of support for the delivery of the district level licence for GCN. You will raise awareness of the scheme within the local planning authorities, understand planning and licensing requirements, and monitor and advise on compliance and enforcement measures. You'll be covering everything from identifying GCN constraints within planning applications, to supporting the creation of compensatory habitats. To do this you'll be providing guidance to both developers and team members. The post is an excellent opportunity to learn all aspects of ecological planning advice.

A good knowledge of great crested newt ecology and planning application processes would be an advantage, but all guidance and training will be given.

You will be joining a dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced team comprising 14 ecological officers, five historic environment officers, and two landscape architects.

General Information

We are looking for candidates who can integrate well with the existing team, bringing their current skills and an enthusiasm to expand their expertise. Our workforce training plan supports active progression from apprentices to Service Managers, following the respective chartered institute competency frameworks (or equivalent).
