About Kibble

Kibble supports children and young people (aged 5-26) who have experienced trauma and adversity through residential care, education and mental health services. For more than 200 years, we've put young people first and have built a trusted charity with vital services that strive to transform lives, families and communities.

When starting a new job at Kibble, you'll become part of a dedicated staff team who make sure children are happy and safe 365 days a year, 24/7. Whether your role is in care, education, or the corporate side, you'll help give young people a chance at life.

Kibble is looking to appoint a registered or eligible for registration with the GTC (Scotland), experienced Art Teacher who is keen to gain experience of working with children and young people with additional support needs.

Our Expressive Arts Department

The education team at Kibble is based across our schools; primary school - Forest View, secondary school - Goudie Academy, safe centre school - Mirin Academy and The Skills Academy, where there is opportunity to work in collaboration with local community groups as well as national organisations to strengthen opportunities, experiences and development for our learners.

Education Scotland's inspection report praised Kibble as 'Very Good' across all quality indicators, noting positive learning experiences and high motivation among pupils.

What is the job function?

As a teacher at Kibble you will be part of a friendly, supportive and creative team. Small class sizes (6 pupils) allow our learners to meet their maximum potential. Personalised Learning Plans ensure you can deliver the appropriate qualifications to learners based on their needs. You will be well versed in differentiation and personalisation of education and deliver inspiring and engaging lessons to enthuse often reluctant learners.

The successful candidate will enjoy working with learners who access Kibble's Education services, working across Curriculum for Excellence and delivering National Qualifications as well as Wider Achievement Qualifications.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should:
  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification in Art & Design, specific to Secondary Education, and be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (or hold Provisional Registration where the probationary period is not yet complete)
  • Have a strong knowledge and understanding of the Art & Design curriculum across relevant stages, including current subject-related developments
  • Have experience of delivering National Qualifications in Art & Design, including planning, assessment, verification and supporting learners to achieve appropriate qualifications
  • Demonstrate experience of delivering high-quality learning and teaching in Art & Design and preparing learners effectively for assessment
  • Have sound knowledge of safe working practices relevant to Art & Design
  • Demonstrate commitment to curricular development, continuous professional learning and ongoing improvement
  • Be a positive, reliable and collaborative team member who contributes effectively to departmental and whole-school working
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, learners and other professionals, and be willing to share ideas, resources and practice
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for Art & Design and the ability to motivate, encourage and support sometimes reluctant learners
  • Show a clear commitment to the pastoral care and wellbeing of learners
  • Use ICT effectively to enhance learning and teaching
  • Contribute positively to the wider school and Kibble community, including interdisciplinary learning and school improvement activities.
  • Make effective use of time and resources, demonstrating sound judgement, initiative and decision-making skills
  • Experience or knowledge of Film and Screen curriculum delivery would be advantageous.

Safe Crisis Training (SCM)

Successful candidates will require a level of fitness to be able to carry out SCM. Please see note section below (4) for further information.
