British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for an exceptional AIMP Mechanical Engineer to join our team. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. We employ experts from many different professions to carry out our Science as well as keep the lights on, feed the research and support teams and keep everyone safe!

You'll be joining our AIMP Engineering Team in Estates and will help us to deliver Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme (AIMP) projects and capital works projects across the BAS Estate.

Within the role, there will be an opportunity to develop Project management skills, information management skills and supported work towards professional registration among others.

Some of your main responsibilities and duties will include:

• Support Project Manager by liaising with MEP design team, construction partner, technical advisor, and BAS stakeholders in order to co-ordinate BASs engineering requirements throughout design development stages.

• Review technical design submissions and co-ordinate BAS stakeholder comments relating to engineering matters.

• Provide accurate, comprehensive, and timely responses to project technical queries, liaising with end users as required.

• Provide on-site supervision and technical assurance during construction and commissioning. Liaising with the UK team to ensure project teams are informed of site activities.

For the role of AIMP Mechanical Engineer we are looking for somebody who:

• Has experience in a similar role.

• Demonstrates strong professional competencies in Engineering.

• Has strong communication skills and ability to engage with a range of members of BAS staff and external parties.

• Excellent use of office packages; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.

• Is familiar with Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) Packages.
