Flexible time is allocated for independent study, training, audit or research related activities to ensure all 4 domains set by the GMC Good Medical Practice are fulfilled.

Time off in lieu equates to non-working time and will be assigned to ensure out of hours working is rest regulation compliant in line with the appointees contract.

Professional Registration

Essential criteria
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification


Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc) or evidence of progress towards one.


Clinical Skills/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Completion of, or in the final years of, higher specialist training in Gastroenterology (ST6+ or equivalent)
  • Evidence of competence in diagnostic upper and lower GI endoscopy
  • Competence in managing general gastroenterology patients


Desirable criteria
  • Previous evidence of managing IBD patients in the outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team (MDT) working


Management Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery
  • Able to delegate appropriately


Desirable criteria
  • Experience of change management


Teaching, Audit & Research

Essential criteria
  • Experience of audit, quality improvement, or service development


Desirable criteria
  • Previous involvement in IBD-related research
