Job summary

Are you enthusiastic, motivatedand committed to supporting adults with communication difficulties?

We areseeking a compassionate, proactive individual to join our Adult Speech andLanguage Therapy team, working across community and inpatient settings inLeicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. You should have a genuine interest inadult communication needs, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to workindependently while building positive relationships with patients, carers andcolleagues.

A commitment to person-centred care and ongoing learning isessential. This Band 3 role offers a clear development pathway to Band 4.Applicants with substantial relevant experience who already meet the requiredcompetencies may be appointed at Band 4. Band 3 applicants will be supportedthrough a structured programme, with progression available on successfulcompletion.

We offer a welcoming team, regular supervision, ongoing training,support to complete Band 4 competencies, access to clinical and administrativeresources, team meetings and annual appraisal.

As communication is central tothis role, shortlisted candidates will be asked to interact with adults withcommunication difficulties during interview to demonstrate rapport-building andperson-centred values.

Main duties of the job

As a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, you will work closely with qualified Speech and Language Therapists to support adults who may experience communication difficulties as a result of conditions such as:StrokeDementiaProgressive neurological conditionsBrain injuryOther acquired communication difficultiesNo two days are the same, but you may:Support adults with communication difficulties in their own homes, care homes, clinics and inpatient settings.Deliver therapy programmes and communication-focused activities under the guidance of Speech and Language Therapists.Help with planning and carrying out communication groupsDevelop communication resources, such as communication aids and communication books.Liaise with patients, carers and the wider multidisciplinary team.Organise appointments, maintain records and support service delivery.You will work both independently and as part of a supportive team, helping people achieve their communication goals and maximise their participation in daily life.
