Person specificationQualifications Essential criteria - IHRIM Accredited Clinical Coder
- Educated to A Level qualifications in sciences e.g. Biology or equivalent knowledge acquired through work based training
Desirable criteria - AMSPAR Certificate in Medical Terminology
- MOST qualifications, MS Excell
Experience Essential criteria - Ability to code all specialties
- Communicate complex coding rules to clinical and non-clinical staff and external agencies
- Experience of working as a clinical coder in the NHS
- Use of hospital administrative and clinical systems
- Demonstrate an understanding of clinical coding and its uses
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomical and physiological terms
- Attendance at Clinical Coding refresher workshops
Key Skills & Abilities Essential criteria - Analytical & judgemental skills
- Ability to abstract relevant clinical information for coding
- Ability to communicate complex information to clinical and administrative staff
- Planning and organisational skills
- Standard keyboard skills
- Eye for detail
- Operate on own initiative
- Undertake background research to achieve accurate coding
- Mentoring skills
- Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time
