What you'll be doing - Play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Council's ambitious Revenue and Capital Programme, ensuring projects are financially sound and deliver real benefits for residents.
- Provide high-quality financial monitoring and reporting, enabling senior officers and budget holders to make informed, strategic decisions.
- Work in partnership with service managers and project leads to promote strong financial management and accountability across a diverse portfolio of capital schemes.
- Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and outturn positions, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and funding strategies.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities, proactively contributing to solutions that maximise resources and maintain programme delivery.
- Assist in the management of external funding streams, ensuring compliance with funding conditions and key deadlines.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes, systems, and reporting, driving efficiency and best practice.
- Support the production of year-end accounts and statutory returns, maintaining high standards of accuracy and transparency.
- Gain valuable experience in capital finance, including areas such as re-profiling, slippage, and funding strategies, within a supportive, career-graded environment.
- Support the council in delivering a balanced Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP)
- Support the wider objectives of the Corporate Finance Team including budget setting, audit programme and closure of the accounts
About you To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have
Demonstratable experience of:
- Relevant accounting and budgeting experience.
- Relevant budget monitoring experience
- Experience of working in a finance environment
- Experience of working with multiple IT systems.
- GCSE Grades A-C including Maths and English or equivalent
The following skills and knowledge include:
- General knowledge of accounting practices and concepts
- Use of IT packages including Microsoft
- Office Excel and Word
- Good numeracy skills, including experience of data manipulation
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Good organisation skills
- Attention to detail.

- Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines
- Able to demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm and self-motivation
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
