Job description
Academic Tutor in Cyber SecurityCollege of Business, Tech. & EngineeringAcademicGrade 6 - £32,080 to £38,784 per annum (depending on experience) The subject group of Cyber Security is seeking to recruit an experienced cyber security professional to teach as an Academic Tutor on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in cyber security. This is a teaching role, supporting students as they develop practical cyber security knowledge and skills through laboratory sessions, applied projects, online and face-to-face activities, and the assessment of coursework and practical submissions.
Our courses are built around a project-based pedagogy in which students develop their knowledge and skills by working individually and in teams on authentic problems sourced from businesses and organisations across the UK. The successful candidate will use their professional experience to help students apply appropriate industry-standard tools, techniques and frameworks to identify, assess and mitigate cyber security risks.
The role requires someone with broad experience across cyber security, who is comfortable using various cyber security technologies, platforms and tools. This may include areas such as network security, security operations, digital forensics, penetration testing, secure systems, incident response, vulnerability management, cloud security or governance, risk and compliance.
Most importantly, we are looking for an exceptional communicator who can take the complexity of modern cyber security, distil it to its essential principles, and present it clearly to students at different stages of their development.
The range of courses and subjects taught will enable myriad opportunities to grow and develop your portfolio of knowledge in the discipline. You will contribute to the delivery and development of our innovative undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, helping to equip the next generation of Cyber Security practitioners.
We are very proud of our work environment, undergraduates, postgraduates, and research students work together alongside academic and support staff. The way we teach here is non-traditional, you will not be handed a menu of content to serve up to the students. Instead, we follow an applied, project-based approach to learning.
We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment.
The University currently enrols eligible academic staff into the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS), a defined-benefit pension scheme.
