Job description

Lead AI Developer

Location: Norwich

Salary: Circa £50k

This is a great job for someone who has experience developing AI and machine learning solutions and enjoys turning complex data into practical business outcomes.

You'll be confident working with stakeholders, leading technical delivery, and supporting the development of others. This role is ideal for someone who wants to combine hands-on development with team leadership while helping shape how AI is used across Aviva.

A bit about the job:

Data is at the heart of how we make decisions at Aviva. As a Lead AI Developer, you'll join our Data & Analytics team to develop AI and machine learning solutions that improve customer outcomes, support strategic decision-making, and deliver business value. You'll work with teams across the business to identify opportunities where AI can solve complex challenges and unlock new insights.

Alongside leading technical delivery, you'll mentor AI Developers and help build a high-performing, innovative team. Your work will play an important role in supporting Aviva's ambition to be a truly data-led organisation.

Skills and experience we're looking for:
  • Strong experience developing and deploying AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics solutions, with excellent Python development skills.
  • Proven ability to translate complex datasets into actionable insights and communicate recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coaching technical colleagues and supporting the development of high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience working with large and complex datasets to solve business challenges.
  • Experience within insurance, financial services, or another regulated environment would be beneficial, as would exposure to cloud platforms (AWS), MLOps, GenAI technologies, or equivalent relevant experience.

What you'll get for this role:

Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow - is a promise we make to our colleagues too. And one of the ways we live up to that promise is by investing in you. We have so much to offer when it comes to being an Aviva colleague.

• Bonus opportunity 10% - actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva's

• Generous pension scheme e.g. if you put in 8%, Aviva adds 14% in.

• 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days

• Aviva-funded Private Medical Benefit to help you get expert support when you need it

• Make your money go further - Up to 40% discount on Aviva products, and other retailer discounts

• Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares per year through our Matching Share Plan and share in the success of Aviva with our Save As You Earn scheme

• Brilliantly supportive policies including parental and carer's leave

• Flexible benefits to suit you, including sustainability options such as cycle to work

• Make a difference, be part of our Aviva Communities and use your 3 paid volunteering days to help others
