Sustainability at Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I

Be the UK’s most sustainable brewer

Sustainability is our business. We are constantly investing in efficient and sustainable operations across all our breweries so we can make and deliver the best beers in a way that protects our planet and the people in it, now and for the future. This is why our 2025 Sustainability Goals are our most ambitious targets yet.

No Plastic Rings
In 2020, we removed plastic rings from all our canned beers, eliminating 250 tonnes of plastic every year across our full canned beer range, including Budweiser, Bud Light and Stella Artois. In total, combined with decreasing our usage of plastic shrink wrap, we have removed 850 tonnes of plastic waste, the equivalent weight of 67 double decker buses, from our supply chains.

Locally Sourced Barley
In 2020, we also reached our goal of sourcing 100% of the barley used for our UK-produced beers from British farms. The milestone has eliminated the need to import barley, therefore reducing carbon emissions and supporting British agriculture.

Budweiser Brewed with 100% Renewable Electricity
Our iconic brand Budweiser drives real environmental change as every single can, bottle and keg of Budweiser in the UK is now brewed with 100% renewable electricity – a claim made possible by significant investment in solar farms and wind turbines.

Lowest-Ever Carbon Footprint Beer Cans
In September, along with partners across Europe - RUSAL, EN+ Group, CANPACK and ELVAL, we announced the launch of a pilot to produce a can with the lowest ever carbon footprint for an AB InBev beer can produced in Europe. Through the pilot, five million ultra-low carbon Budweiser cans will be produced and sold in the UK. The new technology used to produce our low carbon cans is powered by renewable energy and generates one thousandth of the current average emissions for the industry. With great partnerships we can go further, and this is a great example of that.
