Social Responsibility at IKEA

The founder of IKEA had a very powerful vision: to improve everyday life for the majority of people.

Since the establishment of the first IKEA store almost 50 years ago, we have gone a very long way towards realizing this dream. A key success factor has been the recruitment of committed individuals who have shared the IKEA vision and pulled together to turn it into a reality. Today, IKEA has indeed become a very tangible reality!

It is a worldwide organization employing thousands of people in many different countries. Literally every day IKEA reaches that bit further afield, which is why we need to continue finding and recruiting more committed individuals to join our organization.

People & Planet Positive

At IKEA, we want to have a positive impact on people and the planet. For many years we've focused on economizing resources and helping to create a better everyday life for people. And now we've made a big step forward. We're going all-in with more sustainable cotton and LED lighting.

From September 2015, all the cotton in our products will come from more sustainable sources. This is good news for you, farmers and the environment. At the same time, we're switching to 100% LED, making this sustainable light source more affordable and beautiful. These are just two of the ways we can help people all over the world live more sustainably. We also now have more than 700,000 solar panels installed on IKEA buildings worldwide and we've committed to owning and operating 224 wind turbines.

The main financial principle of the IKEA Group is to grow by using our own resources. In other words, we earn our money before we spend it. This makes it possible for us to make long-term investments for the future.

The IKEA vision is the foundation for our growth. We want to make sure that IKEA is accessible, so that more people can create a better everyday life at home. We re-invest a majority of our profits in existing and new IKEA stores, as well as in product development, sustainable solutions and by continuously lowering prices to our customers.
