Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentThe Faith and Minority Ethnic (FAME) Network is responsible for developing race and faith confidence in BEIS. Over the past year FAME has reformed its functions to create a highly engaged and effective Network with over 600 members, comprising one sixth of the Department. The Network is led by ten elected chairs and leads, supported by SCS Champions and Departmental Race and Faith Champions. This is further supported by our active volunteers taking on numerous other initiatives in our numerous working groups.
FAME regularly hosts events and targeted campaigns to raise awareness of race and faith issues.
Over the past year we have held Ministerial events on family backgrounds, safe-space discussions on race and joint network initiatives on intersectionality as part of race awareness campaigns. Events averaged over fifty attendees, and over a hundred at our most popular events. We co-lead the BEIS Reverse mentoring programme where junior staff from diverse backgrounds mentor SCS on the issues they face. The programme has been highly praised with Permanent Secretary Alex Chisholm highlighting the benefits he gained from participating.
Through our capability workstream, we hold monthly workshops and 1-2-1 coaching sessions for our members. We promote development and career opportunities to support progression. We have used our capability building workshops as a showcase on how issues of BAME underperformance can be effectively addressed within the Civil Service.
We support the efforts of HR in tackling barriers to progression, including through tackling issues of unconscious bias and creating an equal and fair recruitment processes. We actively review new HR policies and support the department in implementing a fair and progressive performance management system.
Our contribution to the Department has been recognised with us setting out recommendations to the BEIS Executive Committee and we have subsequently set out presentations on race across DG Senior Leadership Teams and at the BEIS SCS Awayday.
Share your experience, tips and advice with other job seekers on how they can land their dream job. The best contributions will get published!
