Armed Forces Covenant
The primary responsibility of the government is the safeguarding of the nation. Our Armed Forces shoulder this vital duty on behalf of the government, often making personal sacrifices, confronting peril, and at times, enduring grave injuries or even loss of life in service.
Families, too, play a crucial role in bolstering the operational effectiveness of our Armed Forces. In turn, as a nation, we hold a moral duty toward the members of the Naval Service, the Army and the Royal Air Force, along with their families who deserve our admiration, support and equitable treatment.
Those who currently serve in the Armed Forces, be they regular or reserve personnel, and those who have served in the past, as well as their families, should not be disadvantaged in access to public and commercial services.
This responsibility extends across society, encompassing volunteer and charitable organisations, private enterprises and the actions of individuals who lend their support to the Armed Forces. Acknowledging the contributions of those who have fulfilled military obligations unites our nation and underscores the significance of their service. There is no greater demonstration of this commitment than upholding this Covenant.
